Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Domestic flight from Dar es Salaam to Nyerere national park
Welcome to Tanzania. You will be picked from your hotel in Dar es Salaam in the early morning and be dropped at the airport for your domestic flight to Nyerere national park. On arrival at the airstrip in Nyerere, your appointed safari guide will be waiting to receive you and start off your wildlife safari with an introductory game drive to the wilderness. Drive to your luxury safari lodge / camp for lunch. In the later afternoon, you explore Nyerere’s wildlife sailing on Rufiji River on a 2-3-hour boat ride during which you will see crocodiles, hippos and water birds. Overnight back at your luxury safari lodge / camp.
Day 2-3: Exploring Nyerere national park
Nyerere national park, formerly part of the Selous game reserve is the biggest national park in Tanzania with a lot of ground to explore. There are different tourist activities you can engage in as a family to explore this vast park including game drives, guided nature walks, birding safaris, cultural visits to the park’s neighboring communities and a hot air balloon trip to view the park and its inhabitants from a bird eye’s view. Nyerere is home to a wide range of animal species that you will see including lions, buffalos, elephants, giraffes, spotted hyenas, zebras, monkeys among others and beautiful different bird species around the park.
Day 4: Flight to Ruaha national park
Have your breakfast and after check out and your safari drive will drive you to the airstrip in Nyerere as you enjoy last minute wildlife sightings to take on your flight transfer to Ruaha national park, another of Tanzania’s biggest national parks, more arid and remote as compared to Nyerere national park. In about 1 and a half hours, you will be at the airstrip in Ruaha and your safari guide will drive you to your luxury camp where you will spend your nights in the unspoiled wilderness of Ruaha national park.
Day 5-6: Exploring Ruaha national park
Spend these 2 days exploring one of Tanzania’s biggest national parks and least explored because of its remoteness. This gives you a chance to explore the park without competition. From the many tourist vehicles that flood most of the Northern parks during the peak season. Ruah national park is home to a good population of African elephants, buffalos, zebras, giraffes, lions, hippos among man other animals that you will be able to see during your day game drives (morning, afternoon and evening) around the park.
Day 7: Flight to Zanzibar
Time to leave the dusty wilderness behind for the white sand beach and cool ocean breeze. Have your breakfast. After you will be driven to the airstrip to take your flight to Zanzibar, the tropical spice island. On arrival at the airport in Zanzibar. You will be transported to your luxury beach front resort where you will spend your family beach holiday.
Day 8-11: Zanzibar Family Beach Holiday
Zanzibar is a beautiful tropical island with a lot to do and see. You will spend your beach holiday at leisure, on your own timetable. Enjoying the available amenities, services and activities at your beach resort hotel or take on some of the different activities available around the island outside your resort. You could visit the famous old Stone town or go to a marine park. Enjoy your beach holiday.
Day 12: End of safari
We finally come to the end of your 12-day luxury Tanzania family safari and beach holiday. After your breakfast at the resort beach hotel. You will be transferred to Zanzibar international airport to catch your flight back home.
